Christopher Leahy, 31, has been formally charged with first-degree murder following the stabbing death of University of Washington student Juniper Blessing. Authorities say the incident occurred at an off-campus housing complex in Seattle.
Details of the Murder
Leahy allegedly stabbed 19-year-old Blessing more than 40 times on May 10, 2026, while Blessing was doing laundry. Charging documents describe the attack as “vicious” and note that Blessing was innocent and unaware of any danger.
Investigators say Leahy was not a UW student or Seattle resident but had been tracked via apps and video surveillance in campus buildings and near private homes in the Ravenna area before and after the murder. Witnesses also claim that Leahy stalked other students in the apartment complex prior to the attack.
Charges and Potential Sentence
Leahy faces first-degree murder with a deadly weapon enhancement. If convicted, he could receive a sentence of 22 to 28.6 years in prison:
- 20 to 26.6 years for the murder charge
- An additional 2 years for the deadly weapon enhancement
Investigation Findings
Authorities stated there is currently no evidence that Blessing’s murder was motivated by hate. Police and senior prosecutors reviewed the case and concluded that hate was not a factor, though additional charges may be considered if further evidence emerges.
Leahy is scheduled to be arraigned at the King County Courthouse on May 21, 2026.
