Three Generations of Women Accused of Abusing 7-Year-Old Jor’Dynn Duncan

A heartbreaking case has emerged from Suffolk County, where prosecutors say three generations of women allegedly tortured and abused 7-year-old Jor’Dynn Duncan, who suffered around 90 injuries before her death.

Who Are the Accused?

The women facing charges include:

  • Emily Kelly, 50, charged with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, unlawful imprisonment, and endangering the welfare of a child.
  • Barbara Renner, 75, Kelly’s mother, charged with second-degree manslaughter and endangering a child.
  • Elyssa Seymore, 24, Kelly’s daughter, charged with unlawful imprisonment and two counts of child endangerment.

All three have pleaded not guilty at their arraignments, according to court records.

District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said, “This was not a single act of violence. It was months of alleged systematic cruelty and sadistic abuse, meticulously documented. The child was allegedly left to die while these defendants watched her deteriorate. No child should ever endure such horror, and we will seek justice for Jor’Dynn.”

How Jor’Dynn Duncan Died

Jor’Dynn was placed in Kelly’s care by Suffolk County Child Protective Services in December 2024, with full custody granted in April 2025.

On December 29, 2025, Kelly reportedly called 911 to report that Jor’Dynn was in cardiac arrest. Paramedics rushed the child to the hospital, where she died.

The autopsy revealed that she suffered approximately 90 injuries and died from a massive untreated infection caused by sharp force injuries. Investigators also found extensive photos and videos on Kelly’s devices that allegedly documented prolonged abuse, including restraining the child and inflicting injuries.

Prosecutors also noted that Jor’Dynn missed about 40 days of school between January and June 2025, with Kelly allegedly using false excuses to hide the abuse, including illnesses, family deaths, and a trip to Disneyland.

Charges Against Emily Kelly and Family

Emily Kelly is being held on a $5 million cash or $10 million bond and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. Her next court date is June 23.

Her attorney, John LoTurco, denied the allegations, stating that Kelly cared deeply for Jor’Dynn and that her death was a tragic accident, not intentional. He emphasised that Jor’Dynn had suffered hardships, including losing custody of her mother and her father’s incarceration, which may have contributed to her struggles.

Barbara Renner, who suffers from dementia, is being held on $50,000 cash or $500,000 bond and could face 5–15 years if convicted. Her lawyer, Danielle Coysh, said Renner had no role in Jor’Dynn’s death and had no criminal history.

Elyssa Seymore is held on $25,000 cash or $250,000 bond. Prosecutors say she could face up to four years if convicted. Her attorney, Katherine Fernandez, denied any involvement in Jor’Dynn’s death and clarified that the charges relate to alleged unlawful imprisonment during a short three-day period in July 2025.
