Trump's tentative Iran deal faces GOP criticism; shooting at White House raises security concerns

The United States and Iran were reportedly close to reaching an agreement to end their conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to officials Sunday. However, the emerging deal faced skepticism from some Republicans and conservatives, who questioned whether it would be favorable for the U.S.

Political Debate on Sunday Shows

The proposed Iran deal became a topic of discussion on Sunday morning programs. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) expressed doubts about whether the agreement serves U.S. interests, while House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) defended the emerging deal.

The Texas Senate GOP primary between Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton also drew attention, with Cornyn predicting a win despite tough odds during his appearance on The Hill.

White House Shooting Incident

Separately, security concerns were heightened following a violent act near the White House. On Saturday evening, the Secret Service shot and killed a man after he approached the executive mansion and opened fire.

Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service, said the individual pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW shortly after 6 p.m. EDT.

President Donald Trump publicly thanked the Secret Service for their swift and decisive actions in response to the threat.
