A major shift has taken place in conservative media as Tucker Carlson publicly expressed regret over his past support for Donald Trump. His recent comments have sparked strong reactions, especially because he was once one of Trump’s most vocal supporters.
Carlson Says He Feels “Tormented”
On his podcast, The Tucker Carlson Show, Carlson said he feels deeply troubled by his role in supporting Trump. Speaking with his brother Buckley Carlson, he admitted that he regrets misleading people, even if it was not intentional.
He said he would be “tormented” by his support for a long time and called for people to reflect on their own decisions. Carlson also added that those who supported Trump share some responsibility for what is happening today.
From Strong Supporter to Critic
Carlson’s change in tone is significant because he was once closely aligned with Trump.
- In earlier years, he encouraged people to take Trump seriously during the 2016 election
- By 2020, he strongly supported Trump’s “America First” policies
- In 2024, he even campaigned for Trump and spoke at major events
However, tensions between the two have grown recently, especially over U.S. involvement in conflicts and foreign policy decisions.
Disagreement Over War and Policy
One of the main reasons for Carlson’s shift is his criticism of U.S. involvement in the Iran conflict. He described Trump’s language and approach as “vile” and questioned the decision to support military action.
Carlson also said Trump went against his long-standing promises to avoid such conflicts, calling it a betrayal of what many supporters believed in.
Trump Responds Strongly
Trump has not stayed silent on the issue. He publicly criticised Carlson, calling him “low IQ” and “overrated” in a social media post.
He also suggested he might release a list ranking supporters within his political movement, which includes figures like Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones.
Past Tensions Revealed
This is not the first time Carlson has shown mixed feelings about Trump. During the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit against Fox News, private messages revealed that Carlson had previously criticised Trump’s presidency, even calling it a “disaster.”
Shortly after that case was settled for $787 million, Carlson left Fox News after a long career.
More Controversial Remarks
Carlson has also made other strong statements recently. In one instance, he questioned whether Trump could be the “antichrist” after the president mocked religious figures and shared controversial content online.
He has also suggested that Trump is under pressure from outside forces and may not be fully in control of his decisions.
A Turning Point in Conservative Media
Carlson’s shift shows a growing divide within conservative circles. While he once helped strengthen Trump’s public image, he is now openly questioning his leadership and decisions.
This change has created debate among supporters, with some agreeing with Carlson and others continuing to stand with Trump.
