As the transfer portal season slows down, Tulane women’s basketball is making key changes both on and off the court. Head coach Ashley Langford is reshaping her staff while also focusing on building a stronger team for the upcoming season.
Coaching Staff Updates at Tulane
Tulane Green Wave women’s basketball has announced a few important staff changes. One of the biggest updates is the return of former player Harlyn Wyatt, who joins as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Wyatt graduated from Tulane in 2019 and brings valuable experience after spending the last three seasons with Memphis. There, she worked closely with post players and helped develop strong defensive talent.
Meanwhile, Shyan Mwai will now focus fully on her role as an assistant coach after previously handling video coordination duties as well.
Johnny Flores continues as a graduate assistant and will now also take on video coordinator responsibilities.
Team Needs in the Transfer Portal
Coach Langford has been clear about what the team needs moving forward. Her main focus is strengthening the forward positions, where the squad currently has limited depth.
She is looking for players who can do more than just play inside. Ideally, she wants forwards who can handle the ball, move around the perimeter, and shoot effectively from long range.
This style fits her system, where forwards are expected to play more like guards and contribute in multiple ways.
Ideal Player Profile
Langford described her ideal players in detail. For the forward position, she prefers athletes similar to Jayda Brown — players who are flexible, skilled with the ball, and comfortable shooting from outside.
For the center position, she is looking for a balanced player who can both defend and score. She mentioned combining the strengths of past players like strong defence and athleticism with scoring ability as the perfect mix.
While three-point shooting is important across the team, it is especially a focus for guards and forwards.
Roster Changes Add New Challenges
Since the initial plans were discussed, things have changed quickly. Two standout freshmen players, Kendall Sneed and Mecailin Marshall, have entered the transfer portal.
This unexpected move means the team may now also need to focus on adding guards, not just forwards.
Timeline for Building the Team
Langford expects the recruitment process to take some time. She mentioned that the team may not finalise its roster until mid or late May.
The extended transfer window allows both players and coaches more time to make better decisions. According to Langford, this helps players choose the right fit instead of rushing into commitments.
