Investigators with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested two suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a 16-year-old boy that occurred on Saturday in LaPlace.

The Robbery Incident

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Dave Street in Reserve at 5:08 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a juvenile male being robbed at gunpoint. The victim told investigators that he had driven to LaPlace earlier to meet Brendell Cosey, 17, and his cousin, Jacoi Cosey, 18, who were interested in buying his headphones.

The victim explained that he met the two suspects near the intersection of Elm Street and Fagot Loop in LaPlace. According to the victim, both Brendell and Jacoi Cosey pointed guns at him and demanded his belongings. They ripped two watches off his wrist and stole his headphones. The total value of the stolen items was reported to be $944.

During the robbery, Brendell Cosey struck the victim in the head with his gun before the suspects fled the scene.

Arrests and Charges

After the victim returned home and reported the incident to 911, deputies patrolling the area near Elm Street and Fagot Loop spotted Brendell and Jacoi Cosey walking in the vicinity. Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence and recovered the stolen headphones as well as a gun.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into the parish jail. Brendell Cosey was charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery, while Jacoi Cosey was charged with armed robbery.

Brendell Cosey is being held in the parish jail on a $108,000 bond, while Jacoi Cosey is being held on a $75,000 bond.
