Picayune, MS – Pearl River County deputies have arrested two men after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamine and the capture of a suspect wanted on a felony warrant. The arrests occurred on the morning of April 30, according to the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

Discovery of Methamphetamine

The traffic stop took place around 9:15 a.m. on Interstate 59, near mile marker 27. During the stop, deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, leading to the discovery of methamphetamine. Authorities say the passenger, 61-year-old Clarence Ladner III, attempted to throw a bag containing methamphetamine toward the interstate in an effort to conceal or destroy the evidence.

After the attempted destruction of evidence, Ladner was immediately taken into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed additional methamphetamine. Ladner was charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute
  • Tampering with physical evidence

Arrest of James Collier

The driver of the vehicle, 66-year-old James Collier, was also arrested. Deputies discovered that Collier had an outstanding felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance following the stop.
