Newly unsealed court documents reveal that Tyler Robinson, the man accused of killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk, allegedly admitted in a handwritten letter that he had the “opportunity” to carry out the attack.
Shooting at Utah Event
Authorities say Robinson shot Kirk on Sept. 10, 2025, while he was speaking at a Turning Point USA event held at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The incident sparked a manhunt after Robinson fled the scene.
Message to Partner and Letter Discovery
According to court documents, Robinson sent a message to his partner instructing them to check under his keyboard. There, a handwritten letter was found, which police later reviewed through a photo provided by the partner.
In the letter, Robinson allegedly wrote that he had left home “on a mission” and expected either death or a long prison sentence.
Alleged Admission and Motive
The letter reportedly included a direct statement about the attack, with Robinson writing that he had taken the opportunity to target Kirk. He also expressed regret and emotional conflict, stating he wished circumstances had been different.
Messages During Manhunt
While on the run, Robinson allegedly sent additional messages expressing concern about the situation. He indicated he did not want to face a highly public legal process.
Arrest and Charges
Robinson surrendered to authorities on Sept. 11, 2025. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent offense in the presence of a child.
Upcoming Court Proceedings
Robinson is scheduled to appear in court on April 17, where attorneys are expected to argue over whether cameras should be allowed in the courtroom during the proceedings.
