A disturbing homicide investigation in Utah has led police to search for a man accused of killing his wife after offering to drive her to work.

Authorities say what first appeared to be a missing persons case quickly turned into a murder investigation when the woman’s body was discovered inside a trailer owned by her husband. Investigators believe the suspect may have carefully planned the crime before fleeing the state.

Utah Man Wanted for Wife’s Murder

Police in Saratoga Springs, Utah, are searching for 57-year-old Alvaro Jose Urbina Rojas, who has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 43-year-old Jeusselem Elieth Genes Vitola.

According to investigators, the couple left their home around 10 a.m. on February 26. Family members knew that Rojas was planning to drive his wife to work that morning.

However, Vitola never arrived at her workplace, and neither she nor her husband returned home later that day. Concerned family members contacted police after realizing something was wrong.

Couple Initially Reported Missing

When authorities first began investigating, they treated the situation as a missing persons case.

Family members told police that the couple had been married for about 19 years and had moved to the United States from Venezuela roughly a decade earlier. They also shared that the couple had two children together, including a young son.

Initially, relatives believed there might be a misunderstanding or that the couple had been detained by immigration authorities, but investigators quickly ruled that out.

Police Track Couple’s Movements

Using cellphone data and license plate reader technology, investigators began tracing the couple’s movements.

Authorities discovered that the couple’s gray 2005 Toyota Sequoia had traveled south through Utah and into Las Vegas later the same day. Debit card records also showed purchases made along the route.

Meanwhile, Rojas’ cellphone later pinged in Draper, Utah, two days after the couple disappeared.

These clues led investigators to a storage facility where the couple kept a camper trailer.

Body Found Inside Camper Trailer

After obtaining a search warrant, police searched the trailer in Draper on March 2.

Inside, they discovered Vitola’s body along with a cellphone believed to belong to Rojas.

According to court documents, the victim’s hands were bound with a zip tie and rope. An autopsy later revealed she died from severe blunt force trauma to the head, with signs that she may also have been suffocated. The death was ruled a homicide.

Following the discovery, investigators officially charged Rojas with murder.

Possible Motive: Financial Struggles and Divorce

During the investigation, detectives learned that the couple had been facing serious financial difficulties over the past year.

Family members told police that the financial stress had caused tension in the marriage. According to investigators, Vitola had recently told her husband she wanted a divorce.

Authorities also learned that Rojas had reportedly become increasingly jealous and suspicious of his wife. Family members said he had been monitoring her activities and even following her at times.

Police Believe the Crime May Have Been Planned

Investigators suspect that Rojas may have intentionally sabotaged his wife’s vehicle so it would not work.

Police believe this may have forced Vitola to ask him for a ride to work, giving him the opportunity to carry out the killing.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed the couple leaving their home together that morning. Later footage showed Rojas alone at a gas station not long afterward.

Suspect Believed to Be in California

Authorities say Rojas fled Utah shortly after the incident.

Evidence from debit card purchases suggests he traveled through Nevada and may now be in Southern California.

As of now, police have not been able to locate him, and he remains wanted for the murder of his wife.

Community Shocked by the Case

Members of the local community have expressed sadness and disbelief over the case.

Friends and neighbors described Vitola as a devoted mother who had moved to the United States hoping to build a better life for her children.

Community members have also held vigils to honor her memory.
