Vanilla Ice is standing firm on his decision to perform at this summer’s Freedom 250 festival, despite multiple artists dropping out over the event’s ties to Donald Trump.
Vanilla Ice Confirms Performance
The rapper, whose real name is Robert Van Winkle, confirmed that he will perform at the Great American State Fair on June 26 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Vanilla Ice emphasized that music is not political and that he performs for fans regardless of politics or nationality. He even said he would perform for Russian President Vladimir Putin if asked.
Other Artists Withdrawing
Five of the nine acts originally announced by Freedom 250 have officially dropped out: Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day, Martina McBride, and the Commodores. Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli remains scheduled to perform alongside Vanilla Ice. Flo Rida has yet to comment, and Freedom Williams of C&C Music Factory is still considering his participation.
Vanilla Ice on the Festival
Vanilla Ice described his approach to the festival as celebrating life and bringing people together through music. He said the event is about fun, dancing, and enjoying America’s 250th anniversary. He compared the festival vibe to the ’80s and ’90s, a time he says was less serious and more focused on entertainment and enjoyment.
He emphasized that the Freedom 250 celebration is about uniting people through music, not politics, and encouraged attendees to dance and enjoy the festivities.
