A woman has been convicted of manslaughter for the fatal shooting of a tourist on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, authorities said.
Details of the Incident
The shooting occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on June 22, 2024, at the intersection of Toulouse and Bourbon Streets. Police found 39-year-old Christopher Oatts Jr. with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
Surveillance footage showed 22-year-old Mia Lindsey firing a gun into the crowded area after a verbal altercation involving her group. Investigators also said that evidence in Lindsey’s car connected her to the shooting.
Victim Information
Oatts, a Florida resident and father of two boys, was visiting New Orleans with his cousins. His sister told WWL Louisiana that he had been walking back to his hotel when he was caught in the crossfire.
“We went there as a party of eight, and we had to come back as a party of seven, and my brother had to be transported back a week later in a box,” she said.
Legal Proceedings
Lindsey’s sentencing date has not been announced. Authorities are still investigating the involvement of a second woman arrested in connection with the case, Mariah Campbell.
The case highlights the dangers of public shootings in crowded areas and the severe consequences of firearms misuse.
