The Rebel Express, the official news website for Riverside Academy, garnered several top prizes at the annual Tom Bell Silver Scribe Awards competition announced May 20 by the Louisiana Chapter of the Journalism Educators Association and the Loyola School of Communication and Design.
The Rebel Express won first place in website theme, second place in website design and first place in photography.
In the individual student awards, Noah Trepagnier, Craig Matt and Jessie Weiler won first place in headline writing for “Crescent Roll” on the story about the football team’s lopsided win over Crescent City Christian Academy.
Trepagnier also won third place for his first person account of the evacuation of the campus during the Marathon Petroleum fire.
Matt won third place for his photo gallery of the high school seniors and kindergarten graduates.
Trepagnier also took second place for his Ramblin’ Rebels podcast featuring departed softball coach Tamra Regalo and he finished third for his podcast with band director Darryl Clement.
This was the second year the website was entered in the contest. The Rebel Express was named Best Publication Website in 2023. The 2023-2024 Rebel Express staff included Editor Jessie Weiler, Sports Editor Noah Trepagnier, Photographer Craig Matt and contributors Brooklyn Williams, Jailyn Irwin, Teryn Davis, Brayden Lasseigne, Lee Meyers, and Alexis Bearden. Other contributors included Kasey Bourgeois, Cameron Galvez, Sophia Cruz, Corrin Cashio and Camille Mistretta and photographer Lindsay Hymel Cambre.
