A birthday celebration in Las Vegas ended in tragedy when a Nevada man was allegedly shot and killed by his roommate and close friend following an argument outside a bar. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 1 and has led to a murder charge against the accused, according to police.
Birthday Celebration Turns Deadly in Las Vegas
Authorities say 37-year-old Anthony Anderson was fatally shot after spending the evening celebrating his birthday with friends at the Dive Bar in Las Vegas. Police allege that the shooting was carried out by 26-year-old Jordan Garcia, who was not only Anderson’s roommate but also considered one of his closest friends.
According to investigators, Anderson, Garcia and Anderson’s girlfriend spent the night together at the bar. Garcia had reportedly been picked up from work earlier by the couple before they headed out to celebrate.
Police said Anderson’s girlfriend later told investigators that the two men shared a close bond and often referred to each other as brothers. Throughout the evening, Garcia reportedly consumed a few drinks while Anderson drank heavily.
Argument Begins Over Who Would Drive Home
As the group prepared to leave the bar around 4 a.m., an argument reportedly broke out over who would drive home.
According to police, Anderson’s girlfriend had agreed to be the designated driver for the night. However, Anderson allegedly insisted on driving despite having consumed a significant amount of alcohol.
Garcia reportedly tried to convince his friend to allow Anderson’s girlfriend to take the wheel. The disagreement continued and eventually escalated into a heated argument between the two men.
Verbal Dispute Escalates Into Physical Fight
Investigators say the situation quickly turned physical outside the bar. According to Anderson’s girlfriend, she got into the driver’s seat of the vehicle while the two men continued talking nearby.
When she looked outside, she reportedly saw Anderson and Garcia wrestling on the ground. She exited the vehicle and managed to separate the two men. A witness at the scene allegedly recorded the confrontation on video.
After breaking up the fight, Anderson’s girlfriend returned toward the vehicle. Moments later, she reportedly saw flashes reflected in a mirror and believed they were coming from a firearm.
She then saw Anderson collapse to the ground.
Witness Claims Suspect Admitted to Shooting
According to the arrest report, a bar employee rushed outside to provide medical assistance to Anderson after the shooting.
The employee later told investigators that Garcia spoke to him and allegedly admitted what had happened. Police said the employee recalled Garcia making a statement similar to, “I shot him and he tried to fight me.”
Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene that was allegedly used in the shooting. Investigators learned that the gun belonged to Anderson, although it was reportedly shared between the two roommates.
According to Anderson’s girlfriend, Anderson had been carrying the firearm because Garcia had been at work earlier that day.
Victim Dies at Hospital
Emergency responders transported Anderson to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he later died from his injuries.
Police said Garcia did not provide a statement to officers at the scene following the incident.
Investigators continued gathering witness statements and evidence before formally charging him in connection with the shooting.
Murder Charge Filed Against Jordan Garcia
Jordan Garcia has been charged with open murder in connection with Anderson’s death. He remains in custody at the Clark County Department of Corrections while the case moves through the court system.
Court records show that Garcia is scheduled to appear in court on June 9. Prosecutors are expected to present evidence gathered during the investigation as the legal proceedings continue.
