A major recruiting battle is heating up in college football as one of the nation’s top high school wide receivers continues to draw heavy interest from several powerhouse programs. Even though he has already committed to Texas, schools like LSU and Ole Miss are still working hard to convince him to reconsider. With multiple official visits scheduled, the race for the elite prospect is far from over.
Five-Star Receiver Easton Royal Still Drawing Major Interest
Easton Royal, a standout wide receiver from Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, remains one of the most sought-after players in the 2027 recruiting class.
The talented pass catcher is currently verbally committed to the Texas Longhorns after announcing his pledge last fall.
Despite that commitment, several major college football programs are continuing to recruit him aggressively.
Royal is widely ranked as the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2027 class and one of the top overall players in the country.
LSU and Ole Miss Pushing Hard in Recruitment
Two programs making a strong push for Royal are the LSU Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels.
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has reportedly been building a strong relationship with Royal during the recruiting process.
According to Royal, the communication has been consistent, with coaches sending messages, motivational videos, and encouragement throughout the season.
Royal said many of his friends at school have also been urging him to reconsider his commitment and choose LSU instead.
However, the receiver has made it clear that he is still carefully evaluating his options.
He explained that choosing the right college is a once-in-a-lifetime decision and that he wants to make the best choice for both himself and his family.
Multiple SEC Programs in the Mix
In addition to Texas, LSU, and Ole Miss, several other top programs have offered scholarships to Royal.
These include:
- Florida Gators
- Tennessee Volunteers
Programs across the Southeastern Conference are competing for the explosive wide receiver.
Royal is expected to take several official visits this summer as he continues evaluating schools.
These visits could play a key role in determining whether he remains committed to Texas or flips to another program.
Elite Performance on the Field
Royal has already built an impressive résumé during his high school career.
During his sophomore season in 2024, he earned Catholic League All-District First-Team honors after producing more than 1,100 all-purpose yards and scoring double-digit touchdowns.
He continued that success during his junior season.
His statistics included:
- 53 receptions
- 1,151 receiving yards
- 17 touchdowns
Royal’s speed is another major reason college programs are so interested in him.
He has also competed in track and field, recording a 10.3-second time in the 100-meter dash.
That elite speed makes him a dangerous playmaker both as a receiver and after the catch.
Texas Still Holds the Commitment
Although LSU and other programs are pushing hard, the Texas Longhorns still hold Royal’s verbal commitment.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff currently have the advantage heading into the upcoming recruiting visits.
However, recruiting commitments — especially for players in earlier classes — can change as prospects continue exploring their options.
That makes Royal’s upcoming visits an important moment in his recruitment.
