Sheriff’s Response to the Incident
Initially, Sheriff Greg Champagne said, “It is clear that tensions are running high with both air travelers and everyone else whose job it is to maintain order and safety.” He added that his department would review the incident to understand the full context of what happened.
However, in a second statement, Champagne praised the deputy’s actions. He explained that the situation at the airport was becoming increasingly chaotic, with heated arguments and profanity-laced confrontations among the travelers. Champagne stated that the deputy had been asked to rush to the parking garage to help restore order.

Champagne explained that, upon arriving, the deputy observed heated arguments between travelers, which were on the verge of becoming physical. The crowd, described as a “mob,” was pushing forward with no lines.
