New Sarpy, LA – A gun dispute in New Sarpy turned into a shooting that left an 18‑year‑old seriously injured and led to the arrest of a 17‑year‑old, according to St. Charles Parish detectives.
What Happened
Deputies were called on Saturday to the 200 block of Annex Street after a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an 18‑year‑old male lying in a front yard with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in serious but stable condition, authorities said.
How the Shooting Started
Investigators say the shooting began during an argument over a firearm between the victim and 17‑year‑old Lonzell Turley of Annex Street. The disagreement escalated, and shots were fired.
Detectives later obtained an arrest warrant for Turley. While executing a search warrant at the residence, they found Turley along with a 15‑year‑old and a 16‑year‑old.
Arrest and Charges
Turley turned himself in on Sunday at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona. He was booked on one count of aggravated battery while detectives continue their investigation.
The Nelson Coleman Correctional Center, located at 5061 Highway 3127, handles arrests and bookings for St. Charles Parish, and operates 24 hours a day.
Ongoing Investigation
Detectives say they collected more evidence during the search and are interviewing witnesses to understand what led to the shooting. Officials have not yet released a motive.
