An investigation is ongoing after an 88-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run incident in the South Park East neighborhood, east of the Harbor (110) Freeway, on Wednesday evening. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible.
The Incident
The fatal crash occurred around 7:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Avalon Boulevard and 49th Street. According to LAPD, the man was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle, described as possibly a black sedan, traveling north on Avalon Boulevard. The driver did not stop after hitting the pedestrian and fled the scene.
The Victim and Emergency Response
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded quickly to the scene, providing medical assistance before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
LAPD’s Appeal for Information
The LAPD is now asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information that could help identify the suspect to come forward. Investigator D. Chung from the LAPD’s Central Traffic Division Detectives is leading the investigation and can be reached at 213-486-0760.
