Riverside Academy’s basketball teams are in full swing in the new year.

The girls opened their season with a 38-32 loss against Haynes Academy on Monday, Dec. 12, then lost to Houma Christian 48-19 on Friday, Dec. 16. The team beat Louise McGehee 35-26 on Tuesday, Dec. 20 in their first district game on the road. The girls then traveled to Ascension Catholic and lost 64-23 on Wednesday, Dec. 21, then lost to St. James 48-35 Tuesday, Dec. 27. The teamĀ  won their second district game against Varnado 61-13 in on Tuesday, Jan. 3. The girls beat Lutcher 49-28 on Friday, Jan. 6 then traveled to St. Martin’s Episcopal for a 51-15 win on Tuesday, Jan. 10. The girls beat Academy of Our Lady 52-24 on Wednesday, Jan. 11 and closed their week with a 61-46 loss at Cabrini on Thursday, Jan. 12.

The boys opened their season with a 51-49 loss at West Jefferson on Saturday, Dec. 10. The team then lost to St. Amant 76-60 on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at home. The team lost to St. Thomas Aquinas 73-50 on Friday, Dec. 16 then beat Varnado 53-44 on Wednesday, Dec. 28. The team competed in the St. Charles tournament and lost to Northlake Christian 55-49 on Wednesday, Jan. 4. The team competed in the St. Edmund tournament on Friday, Jan. 6 beating Maurepas 60-25. The team then lost to St. James 52-33 on Saturday, Jan. 7 in the St. Charles tournament and closed their week with a 58-55 win on Thursday, Jan. 12 against Kenner Discover Health and Science.

The girls will compete against De La Salle on Monday, Jan. 16 in the gym. The boys will compete in their first district game of the season at West St. John on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
