The Riverside Academy Rebels fell to the Newman Greenies 33-7 in a non-district football game on Sept. 8. It was a flag fest. The two teams combined for 21 penalties, seven of them on the Greenies and 15 on the Rebels. One of the penalties was an unsportsmanlike conduct which resulted in the ejection of head coach Lee Roussel with a little more than eight minutes remaining in the game.
The Rebels had one score early in the second quarter by eighth grader Kendrick Johnson from 1-yard out. The Rebels’ Kaleb Brumfield forced a fumble which was recovered by Chance Tyler, putting the Rebels in good field position. They could not capitalize, however. One play later, the Greenies force a fumbled and got the ball back. Riverside quarterback Brock Bourgeois finished with 105 yards passing and was intercepted once.
The Rebels will take on the Central Catholic Eagles in a non-district game Friday at 7 p.m. at Mickey Roussel Field.
