The roles were reversed on Tuesday, Sep. 26, when Riverside Academy held its first Powderpuff Football Game as part of Homecoming Week.
The junior girls, wearing blue, faced off against the senior girls, in pink, in a flag football game with the boys serving as cheerleaders and coaches. Teachers Mrs. Sonya Mazzella, Ms. Jenna Roussel and Coach Pierce Bonck were the referees. Each of the other classes came to school in a different color to cheer on the squads.
The senior girls won the game scoring four touchdowns while the juniors managed only one.
Senior Daja Mixon scored two touchdowns and had an interception. Amber Palermo scored two touchdowns as well.
“It’s all about the player,” Mixon said.
“Don’t hate the player,” Palermo said. “We came out ready to play.”
But the junior girls are out for revenge next year.
Ella Champagne said, “We’ll be ready.”
Students seemed to enjoy the new event.
“I thought it was cool,” said junior Mia Saijas. “It was something new we’ve never done before.”
