Friday was the most hyped up game of the regular season for the Riverside Academy Rebels due to the St. Martin’s Saints having the No. 1 running back in the nation, Harlem Berry. But nobody left Friday’s game talking about Berry. All eyes were on the Rebels’ running back, Dedric Lastie in the 55-14 blowout.
The 5-foot-3 junior running back rushed for 351 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries to become the star of the show. Lastie was nominated by several websites as the Player of the Week, including L’Observateur and the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club. The Rebels offensive line, Ayden Bullock, Amiree Alexander, Noah Trepagnier, Taye Drake, and Craig Matt, won postgame honors of offensive line of the week by Fox 8 Sports. Quarterback Brock Bourgeois threw a touchdown, caught a touchdown, and ran for a touchdown to help with the Rebels win. Bourgeois also went 6 of 12 for 144 yards and one touchdown, to Mason Smith for 62 yards. Smith finished with two catches for 84 yards.
The Rebels defense held their own against the Saints offense, forcing three turnovers. The Rebels had two interceptions, one by Cruz Cambre and the other by Jaedon Butler. Southeastern Lions Commit, Amiree Alexander, forced and recovered a fumble.
The Rebels held Berry to 160 yards rushing on 30 carries, just over 5 yards per carry. The Rebels also blocked a field goal attempt by St. Martin’s.
Riverside (5-1) will take it back home this Friday to face the West St. John Rams (1-5) at 7 P.M.
