The Riverside Academy Lady Rebels volleyball team (10-11) will host its annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The junior varsity match against Ascension Catholic (15-11) will begin at 5 p.m. The varsity game will follow.
As is tradition, each volleyball player will honor someone who has battled breast cancer. There will be a raffle and special concessions will be sold to help raise money. Students will be allowed to wear pink shirts to school on Wednesday by paying $1. Spectators are encouraged to wear pink clothing to the game.
All proceeds of the game will go to the Perry’s Posse, a local organization based out of Garyville which supports people with various types of cancer. Founded in 2014 after the death of Lawrence “Perry” Levet, Jr. after a hard fought battle with Leukemia, Perry’s Posse has raised just over $500,000 and helped around 700 people.
“This is our way, as a team and as a school to give back to the community,” Coach Brandi Melancon said. “It is also a way to have fun and know you’re playing for someone. This year I chose to play Ascension Catholic (for the Pink Game) because it is the deciding factor of who is probably going to win district.”
