The Riverside Academy Rebels are heading into the hectic spring sports schedule.
The boys basketball team advanced to the second round of the Division IV Select playoffs last week but fell to the St. Martin’s Episcopal Saints on Tuesday by the score of 75-35.
The Lady Rebels softball team had a fantastic week going 2-0. They defeated St. Martin’s Episcopal on Monday, 20-0. On Tuesday the Lady Rebels beat the Zachary Broncos 15-10. On Thursday the team beat Mandeville High School, 9-5. The Lady Rebels were supposed to compete in the Hahnville Tournament this weekend, but that has been postponed due to the weather. The team will take on the Ascension Catholic Bulldogs at home on Wednesday, March 6 at 4:30 p.m..
The Rebels baseball team is still in search of their first win and is currently 0-4. The Rebels are participating in the Trey Altick Tournament in Monroe, where they play one game on Friday and two games on Saturday. The Rebels will open up district play against the St. Martin’s Episcopal Saints on Tuesday, March 5 at Mike Miley Stadium.
The Riverside tennis team’s season is underway. The team competed against St. Michael’s on Monday, Feb. 26. The match against East Ascension was rained out. The team will play Walker on March 6 at Forest Park.
The Rebels track team was to open up its season today, but was postponed due to the weather.
Also this week, WGNO sportscaster Ed Daniels visited Riverside Academy to award the Rebels football team its trophy and t-shirts for being named the Smoothie King “Smooth Team of the Year.” The Rebels were the Division IV Select state runners-up in 2023. The players and coaches also enjoyed smoothies.
