Riverside Academy baseball coach Marty Luquet reached a coaching milestone on Thursday, April 11.
With a 16-0 victory over West St. John by the Rebels, Luquet got his 500th win as a high school coach. Coach Luquet started coaching in 1980 and has coached at five different schools. It took 27 seasons for him to hit this achievement.
After the game, Coach Luquet was awarded a framed jersey with the number 500 and a banner. His players also gave him a good dunking from the water cooler.
“You don’t do that by yourself,” Luquet said. “Even though it’s my record, when I think about 500 wins, I think about all the people — coaches and players —Â that helped me.”
The Rebels finished the regular season 5-18. They earned the No. 20 seed in the Division IV Select playoff bracket and will travel to Eunice Thursday to play No. 13 seed St. Edmund at 5 p.m..
