The Riverside Academy baseball team advanced to the second round of the Select Division IV playoffs with a 5-0 win over St. Edmund Thursday evening in Eunice.
Pitcher Jayce Ruiz pitched a complete game shut-out, giving up three runs and striking out 10. Brody Vicknair had two hits. Cameron Matt and Ayden Bullock had RBIs.
The Rebels scored four runs in the top of the second inning. Cameron Matt singled allowing Gage Thompson to score the first run. After Brennan Maus walked, Brody Vicknair hit a ball at the pitcher who overthrew first base, allowing three runs to score. In the top of the seventh inning, Ayden Bullock hit a line drive to score Maus.
Riverside , the No. 20 seed, will play No. 4 Vermillion Catholic in the regional round next week.
