Riverside Academy has announced the hiring of two new coaches for next year.
Thomas Hymel has been named the new coach of the Lady Rebels softball team. He replaces Tamra Regalo, who stepped down after nine seasons.
Hymel is a 1990 graduate of Riverside Academy and first began coaching at the school in 1991, running the elementary football program until 2001. He spent nine years coaching Biddy Basketball. He moved to softball in 2003, coaching youth teams in the River Parishes. In 2005 he began coaching the elementary softball team at Riverside and started the Southern Sluggers travel team.
In 2014 Hymel spent time in New York honing his skills under Phil Schonberg of Fast Pitch Power. In 2018 he joined the varsity softball staff with Regalo. He also has worked with the coaching staffs of the LSU Elite Summer Softball Camp and the D1 Vision Elite Softball camp at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Hymel left RA from 2021-2022 to coach at Baton Rouge Community College, but returned in 2023 to help the Lady Rebels win their 2023 state championship.
Falgoust is a 2008 graduate of Riverside Academy and was a member of the 2006 state championship team. He later played college ball at Delgado Community College. He has made coaching stops at Riverside, East St. John and Archbishop Rummel. He replaces Marty Luquet, who spent four seasons as coach of the Rebels.
